Crochet a Wave Breaker Bag

This project really started pre-pandemic when I was experimenting with Cestari's Monticello DK weight, to see if I could crochet bowls out of them.  The bowl experiments came out on the small side, but the husband was looking at one of them and said, "You know, this would make a nice dice bag."

So this year I still had some Monticello left, and I remembered that passing comment.  Thus the Breaking Waves Bag came about.  It can hold quite a few dice, or figurines, or phone, wallet, well quite a lot really considering its size.

I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did.

If you would like a PDF of these patterns and have a Ravelry account, a copy can be found here.

Feel free to change the yarn, gauge, or size to fit your needs.  Please do not try to sell this pattern as your own.

Finishing

(Optional)

Reinforcing:

If you would like to reinforce that holes made in Round 41, use a buttonhole stitch with the color(s) of your choice.  (None of the bags shown were reinforced.)

Cord:

Feel free to use a cord or ribbon of your choice to close your bag.  I would suggest not using cording that is too abrasive.

For the examples shown the cords were made from the left over yarn as follows:

Cut a length of each color used in the bag to 84”

Holds both strands together and fold them in half around a peg, hook, or item that is stable and you can easily unloop from later.  (I use the top of a small c-clamp attached to the kitchen table.)

Twist each pair separately in the same direction until there is a decent amount of twist on each pair, but do not let them kink.

Then twist the two pairs together in the opposite direction.

Clamp all four cut ends together.

Remove the cord from whatever you were using to help twist and allow it to relax.

Decide which side of your bag you would like to be the front and the two holes associated with that side.

With the folded end of the cord lace your cord through the hole on the right hand side of the front, from the front to the inside.

Lace the cord through the next hole to the right from the inside to the outside.

Continue lacing the cord through the bag in this manner until you have brought the cord to the front again.

Knot the two ends of the cord together leaving enough of an end for a tassel if you wish and cut through the folded yarn.

If you would like a locking bead on the back of the bag, find the center back of the cord and fold it in half.  Pull the folded cord through the center of a larger bored bead.  (The size of the bore needed is dependent on the diameter of cord used.  The bags shown used beads with a 5 mm bore hole.)  Pulling the bead toward the back will keep the bag closed, and pulling it away from the bag will allow the bag to stay open.

Knit a Cabled Crown Stocking Cap for All the Family

It's May again, this time after a particularly nice April.  When there is a month of good weather in spring, in the Pacific Northwest, it always makes me a bit worried.  Some may say I can't enjoy a good thing.  Me, I just keep wondering when all the rain will come, because April is supposed to be at least half wet.

Just in case the wind and rain pick up late.  Here is a knitted hat pattern sized for children and adults.  Just in case.  Who knows.  :)

If you would like a PDF of these patterns and have a Ravelry account, a copy can be found here.

Feel free to change the yarn, gauge, or size to fit your needs.  Please do not try to sell this pattern as your own.

If you have any problems that you think I might be able to help you with, email me at GridMammalCrafts@gmail.com
